My Work.
This is the artwork I have created in my Art 100 class
Identity Collage Portrait
![Picture](/uploads/1/2/1/7/121774110/img-0837.jpg?250)
This piece is a self-portrait collage made from magazine clippings. The face and hair were made to look similar to myself, and the background was made to look like a sunny day with a couple clouds in the sky. The objects around the head show some of my interests or things I like. All of the details were created by cutting pieces of paper from magazines and gluing them onto a piece of paper.
I created this portrait to look how I want people to see me, I took out some of my flaws and made the face and hair look like mine. By creating a portrait, I was able to look at myself in more detail, and express how I see myself and want others to see me. In a normal picture you cannot change the subject, but in a portrait you are able to put your own spin on the subject. Portraits are great ways to express emotions on things and to manipulate subjects to look how you want.

Real Anatomy of Technology
The heart powers the television through the arteries. The heart is working at its fullest ability as the television is powering on. This project represents what I believe technology is like today, by showing how our hearts are embedded into our devices. When a person watches television they are wholeheartedly engaged in the program that is on; I attempted to portray this by connecting the heart to the television with arteries. The television has no purpose without someone watching it, so if the viewer is not engaged the television is virtually worthless. The heart of the viewer is key to the purpose of the television, without it the television serves has no use.
This piece of artwork is a drawing of a television from the 1950’s, encasing a human heart. I cut away a corner of the television so the viewer can see inside and see the arteries. The television is powering on in the drawing and the heart is connected to the tv and is the source powering the television. Every bit of color on this piece was done with colored pencil, and I used shading techniques to create a more realistic image. This technique helped me create the illusion of the television powering on and making the heart look three-dimensional. |
The Value of Words
The crucifixion of Jesus was an extremely important part of biblical history. Jesus was sent to the earth to save humans from their sins. He was sentenced to be hung on a cross between two criminals on a hill. The death of Jesus showed that he was indeed human, but his resurrection from the dead showed he was also part God. Jesus’ crucifixion was one of the most important events in biblical history.
The words on the middle cross are representative of Jesus as both human and God. The two crosses on the sides are where the criminals were hanging; the words on the right cross are descriptive of Jesus as a human, and on the left cross they are descriptive of him as God. The Hill is comprised of different places from the bible. The bigger the names are on the hill corresponds with the importance of the place. The bible verses are representative of sunlight and the rising of Jesus to heaven. The verses were handpicked because they are all related to the life of Jesus. All of the words in this piece are representative of the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. |

Printmaking
This set of cards features a print of a sea turtle wading through water. Sea turtles are magnificent and beautiful creatures. Their shells have a wonderful design on them, which has always intrigued me. I enjoy doing works of art involving animals, because their features are not perfect so I can show more of my interpretation with them.
These cards were made using a method called linocutting. I started by drawing my design on a rectangle slab of linoleum. Once the design was finished I carved out the parts I wanted to be white. I then put ink onto the slab and pressed it onto pieces of paper. Two of the prints were made with white paper and two with pink paper. I attached the prints onto a border and then onto a card. This creates a professional looking card.

In this piece I began by letting my hand flow about the paper, creating lines where the charcoal was moved across. The lines began to form words that I had been hearing that day in school. These words are frequently used by students in my school describe their feelings. Many students struggle with dealing with their problems in school and have a hard way expressing them. I used this piece to represent feelings of my fellow students.

Artist Narrative: The idea of building a bobber came to me because a great amount of people in the Atwater community enjoy fishing. There is also a couple lakes in town, which is where I would like to put the bobber. The bobber would be shiny and reflective, much like the bean in Chicago, which is where some of my inspiration came from. I feel the bobber would be a good tourist attraction for the town. Citizens would have something extra in the town to look at and remind themselves of how they share interests with one another. I decided to use a pinch-pot method to create my maquette. The clay worked well to create an accurate model of the piece I wanted to create. After the clay was fired in the kiln I painted it grey to represent the stainless steel color. I painted on a white stripe through the middle and wrote “Atwater” in black permanent marker. |
Art for a Cause
For a few years now I have heard about Military veterans coming back from service and living without a home. At first I did not know or care much, but upon further investigation into the issue I have developed a feeling of concern for those veterans. They have risked their lives to protect us, and have spent many many hours living amongst other military member, not in a normal home. I feel it is only right to make sure these veterans have homes to come back to after their service. They protect our homes, so we should ensure them they have a home of their own.
For this piece I decided to work with a medium I have not worked with before. I knew I wanted to build a scale model house decorated to celebrate veterans, but I did not know what I wanted to build it out of. I decided to use foam board because it is light and durable, and we had some in the art room. There was not a lot of time to complete this project so I was not able to add as much detail as anticipated. After cutting and assembling the foam board I decided on using paint to decorate the house. I taped off the lines that I wanted to paint, and painted the house to resemble an American Flag. I attempted to apply the paint in a way that resembled the look of wood. I was originally planning on painting stars on, but due to the time restriction I had to go with some star stickers which were not ideal. Overall this piece turned out somewhat how I envisioned, but I would have liked to have more time for details. |
